LuckyChap to Adapt Comic “Avengelyne”

Olivia Wilde, Margot Robbie to Adapt Comic ‘Avengelyne’ From ‘Deadpool’ Creator

VARIETY – Olivia Wilde, Margot Robbie and “X-Men” producer Simon Kinberg are joining forces for a feature adaptation of “Avengelyne,” a comic book character from “Deadpool” co-creator Rob Liefeld.

Wilde, whose filmmaking credits include “Booksmart” and “Don’t Worry Darling,” is attached to direct. Robbie’s company LuckyChap and her partners Tom Ackerley and Josie McNamara are producing. Kinberg, a writer and producer of “X-Men” tentpoles, will also produce the film.

The project doesn’t have a home yet, so the creative team will try to sell the film to studios and streamers in the coming weeks. It’s unclear who will play Avengelyne, an angel who fights the forces of evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons and monsters. Rob Liefeld, best known for bringing to life the Merc with a Mouth, a.k.a. Deadpool, co-created the character of Avengelyne in 1995.

There were prior attempts to turn Avengelyne into a big-screen star, but they never got off the ground. In 2013, Gina Carano was attached to star in an adaptation. In 2016, Paramount reportedly nabbed rights for a version from filmmaker Akiva Goldsman.

LuckyChap has been in high demand after the blockbuster success of “Barbie,” which was the highest-grossing movie of 2023 and nominated for eight Academy Awards. Up next, the company is producing Wilde’s new Christmas comedy “Naughty” for Universal Pictures.

LuckyChap’s other major projects include the Oscar-winning dark comedy “I, Tonya,” and Emerald Fennell’s features, “Promising Young Woman” and “Saltburn.” It most recently backed the Sundance coming-of-age film “My Old Ass,” which sold to Amazon MGM Studios for $15 million.

When Barbie Meets Oppenheimer: Margot Robbie and Cillian Murphy Discuss Their Blockbuster Hits in Epic ‘Barbenheimer’ Conversation

Margot Robbie and Cillian Murphy — she the star of “Barbie,” he of “Oppenheimer” — have shared an experience, one unique in film history. On July 21, 2023, their two movies came out, and instead of cannibalizing one another during a time when box office receipts were sluggish, they actually boosted each other, creating the global phenomenon known as “Barbenheimer.”

On paper, the two movies couldn’t be more different. Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” produced by Robbie’s company LuckyChap Entertainment, is the story of the world’s most popular doll, who, after going on a journey to recover from an existential crisis, becomes a woman; Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” is a biopic about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the physicist who oversaw the invention of the atomic bomb. What they have in common, though, is that their directors made wholly original films, ones guided by their inventiveness, and it was the innovative spirit of “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie” that in turn inspired audiences to be creative and participatory in their fandom for both films. The memes, the double-feature TikToks, the costumes people wore to go out to theaters again and again to experience Barbenheimer — after COVID had nearly destroyed in-person moviegoing — “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” proved joy is still to be had (as well as profits, with the box office for “Barbie” at more than $1.4 billion worldwide, and “Oppenheimer” recently crossing $950 million).

Margot on Getting Ready for the Met Gala

Vogue interviewed Margot to discuss her 2023 Met Gala look! Take a look at the photos and article below.

“I Knew It Was the One”: Margot Robbie On Getting Ready for the 2023 Met Gala

Margot Robbie was one of the many guests at this year’s Met Gala who wore black, but her gown boasted a special historical significance.

The theme of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual extravaganza, one that asked guests to come dressed “in honor of Karl Lagerfeld” to celebrate the Costume Institute’s newest exhibition, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”, saw attendees draw from various sources of inspiration. Present were the details that Lagerfeld included so often in his designs at Chloé, Fendi and especially Chanel, from chains and ribbons to Chanel’s signature camellias. Attendees also nodded to elements of Lagerfeld’s distinctive, monochrome uniform: sunglasses, ties and fingerless motorcycle gloves.

That the 32-year-old Robbie therefore, a longtime ambassador of Chanel, would attend the Met Gala in a piece from the house archives was somewhat inevitable. She chose a black silk chiffon gown with plastic and gold chain detailing at the waist, first worn by Cindy Crawford as part of Chanel’s haute couture spring 1993 collection. Stylist Andrew Mukamal accessorized the look simply: no necklace, just diamonds on the ears and fingers.

It was an elegance that was echoed in Robbie’s beauty look, which came courtesy of make-up artist Pati Dubroff. “My inspiration for tonight’s look is clean, glowy, fresh and heightened perfection,” explained Dubroff to Vogue as Robbie was getting ready. “I wanted to achieve a shine to mimic her Chanel dress.”

Margot Robbie & Carey Mulligan – Actors on Actors

Margot Robbie and Carey Mulligan on ‘Babylon’ Orgies and Why ‘Barbie’ Will Be ‘Everything You Dreamed Of’

Carey Mulligan and Margot Robbie know each other, having worked together on Emerald Fennell’s “Promising Young Woman,” which Mulligan starred in and Robbie produced through her company, LuckyChap Entertainment. So when they sit down to discuss their recent projects — Mulligan’s turn in “She Said” as Megan Twohey, the New York Times reporter whose investigative work with Jodi Kantor helped bring down Harvey Weinstein, and Robbie’s portrayal in “Babylon” of Nellie LaRoy, a self-destructive silent film star — it’s like watching two old friends chatting. During the conversation, Mulligan talks about getting to know Twohey, and Robbie gives insight into working with Damien Chazelle on the wild provocation that is “Babylon.” Naturally, Robbie’s upcoming summer film, “Barbie,” by way of Greta Gerwig, also comes up.

A Day in the Life of Margot Robbie

A Day In the Life of Margot Robbie

The actress and new face of Calvin Klein calls in from work.

2:00 P.M. I don’t have a daily routine per se. It’s dictated by whatever job I’m working on, and at the moment I’m in Budapest filming an indie movie called Terminal. I’m the lead character and also a producer, so it’s very busy. We’re doing night shoots, which I’m so happy about because I hate waking up early in the morning. These days I get up mid-afternoon and have what I call green stuff. I don’t know the name of it, but it’s an immune-boosting powder that you mix in with a bit of juice. My mom used to make me take it if I was getting sick, but now when I’m doing jobs I take it every day. If you get sick, you know, people can’t film. It tastes disgusting, but it’s good for you. After drinking that, I take a quick shower. I use Dr. Lancer’s cleanser. When I get out, I dab on some La Prairie eye cream. There’s a dermatologist in Australia who has a skin-care line called Bloc Cosmetics; I like the day-night moisturizer. So that’s my beauty regime. Then I make a quick cup of tea, grab all my stuff, and go. I bring Dilmah tea with me everywhere, and when I’m in England I drink PG Tips. Whenever someone makes me a cup of tea, I’m like, “Imagine you’re making it for a small child—really milky and sweet.” I probably drink at least 10 teas a day. In our family, a cup of tea is the answer to everything. When you walk in, you get offered a cup of tea. If something goes wrong, someone will be like, “I’ll make you a cup of tea.” If something good happens, they will be like, “Great! We’ll make you a cup of tea.”
